Kristina Uehlin, PA-C
lives in
Long Creek,
Oregon and loves the small town atmosphere.
She does not mind the commute as it is a beautiful drive through Malheur
National Forest. She feels lucky to be a part of the area. She hopes to soon
be practicing through the SWCC in the rural areas later this year.
She loves to fish and camp with her husband Kelly
and daughter Halli. She has two adult sons, Adam who is in college in
Eugene, Oregon and Andrew, who is a MP in the Army and is currently
stationed in
Iraq.
She has a medical background dating back to 1990 when she
first started training to become a Medical Assistant. She worked as
a Medical Assistant (MA) for 13 years. She then decided to expand her training
and have a greater role in caring for patients. She specifically wanted to
work in an office setting that was located in a rural area, which is where
she learned most of her skills. She has always wanted to help increase
access to health care in these areas and to the folks like her family and
friends who live in rural areas.
Physician Assistant-Certified training was at the University
of Washington School of Medicine Medex Northwest Physician Assistant
Training Program. This is an intense program following the WWII "Fast Track"
medical model, when there was a shortage of Physicians, the program was
changed to be completed in 2 years instead of 4 years.
Krissy states that it was a challenging program but she is so
glad she became a Physician Assistant as she finds it very rewarding,
especially to be in a rural setting.
